Growing New Farmers – CRFAIR

Video

A 5 minute video highlighting the challenges of new growers in the Capital Regional District of Southern Vancouver Island. The Capital Regional Food and Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable is looking at different ways to support new growers.
Please watch and share! It is important for everyone to realize how difficult it can be for new growers starting out, and what kind of things they need in order to have a successful farming business – we need them to succeed if we want local food!
Thanks!

Growing Land and Future Farmers

hey folks, here is a recent video I made for the CRFAIR (Capital Regional Food and Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable) about the issues of access to farmland.  It was a tight deadline and a seriously massive topic to tackle in under 10mins, but I tried to do it justice.

Thanks to all the farmers and policy makers that were interviewed and thanks to Linda Geggie for all your hard work on this project and many others!

Check it out, here it is super-compressed for youtube quality:

Share a technique!

Farmers in Canada don’t have an extension service that really meets their needs – so we need to find other ways to share our knowledge.

Please consider sharing a technique from your own farm. I can come and film it for you, or if you have a camera or iphone, you can either photo document the technique or film it yourself.   Drop me an email at farmersfilmanac@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Here are some examples of other areas in the world where video knowledge sharing between farmers is happening! Click on the links below:

Young Agrarians at the BC Food Systems Network

The BC Food Systems Network held their annual gathering at Gambier Island on July 7-9.  It was an inspiring weekend where many fascinating presenters shared their exciting projects and ideas.

Here is a short film I made for the Young Agrarians project – it’s just a quick view into what the new generation of agrarians are about, why they are doing what they are doing, what  growing food means to them….. short and sweet.
